Former LS speaker Sumitra Mahajan expressed shock over the last-minute withdrawal of nomination by Congress candidate from Indore, Akshay Kanti Bam, calling it unfair and unethical. Voters had the correct to resolve in a democratic set-up, she asserted. Bam had pulled out of the ballot race on April 29, the final date for withdrawal of nominations, and joined BJP inside hours, leaving Congress surprised.“Persons are calling me and asking me, ‘what has occurred Tai’?,” Mahajan informed TOI Saturday.
“This could not have occurred. There was no want for this, as BJP’s victory in Indore was a foregone conclusion,” Mahajan mentioned, hinting that she believed BJP was behind Bam’s transfer. Indore is a saffron stronghold and Mahajan, now 81, represented the constituency eight consecutive instances since 1989.
