Hot on the heels of the Sydney Sweeney-starring chiller Immaculate comes one other nun-semination horror. This prequel to Richard Donner’s 1976 basic, The First Omen follows Margaret (Nell Tiger Free), a wide-eyed American novitiate who arrives in Rome wanting to take her vows, solely to bump into sinister actions inside a splinter group of the Catholic church. The plot appears to revolve round a baby, named Carlita, whose troubling behaviour is severely punished by the nuns on the convent-run orphanage the place Margaret now works.

It’s an honest try from director Arkasha Stevenson to faucet into the look and the spirit of the unique movie. And whereas it doesn’t match The Omen for scares, it does ship some skin-crawlingly creepy moments.
