Japan’s Toyota plans to mass-produce a battery electrical Hilux pickup truck by the top of 2025, the president of its Thailand unit mentioned on Tuesday.

The announcement comes just some days after rival Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors mentioned it will manufacture its battery D-MAX pickup in Thailand by 2025.

Thailand is a regional automaking hub, with pickup vehicles among the many autos produced for home sale and export.

Chatting with reporters on the sidelines of the Bangkok Worldwide Motor Present, Toyota’s Thailand’s Noriaki Yamashita mentioned the Hilux could possibly be prepared by the top of this 12 months. He didn’t specify the place the car can be produced.

In Thailand, Toyota expects to promote 250,000 autos this 12 months, Yamashita mentioned.
