Britain’s King Charles has given his assent to laws central to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s plan to ship asylum seekers to Rwanda.
Royal assent is the ultimate stage within the legislative course of, and successfully rubber stamps the choice taken by parliament earlier this week to approve the invoice after an extended battle between the federal government and opponents of the plan.
The Royal Assent was introduced within the Home of Lords on Thursday, which means the Security of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Invoice will now change into legislation.
Parliament authorised the laws within the early hours of Tuesday morning. On Monday, Mr Sunak stated he anticipated the primary flights to Rwanda to take off in 10 to 12 weeks after it was handed.
