Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added another remarkable chapter to his extraordinary IPL 2026 season during Rajasthan Royals’ Qualifier 2 clash against Gujarat Titans, toppling multiple records in a knock packed with milestones. The 15-year-old may have fallen short of a century, but he still walked away having rewritten parts of the IPL and T20 record books.

Among the highlights of the innings was Sooryavanshi becoming the fastest batter to 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced, while also becoming the first player in T20 history to score 500 runs in powerplays alone during a single tournament.

GT vs RR, Qualifier 2: UPDATES | SCORECARD

The latest feat came just two days after his breathtaking 97 off 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, an innings that left him three runs short of the fastest century in IPL history. Against Gujarat Titans, however, the teenager showed a different side to his batting.

Unlike many of his explosive starts this season, Sooryavanshi was forced to work hard for his runs against Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, who repeatedly hit disciplined lengths and denied him easy scoring opportunities. His first six did not arrive until the 13th ball he faced, an unusually quiet start by his standards.

Gujarat Titans’ plans appeared to be working early on, especially after Rajasthan Royals lost Yashasvi Jaiswal for 1 and Dhruv Jurel for 7. But as has often been the case this season, Sooryavanshi eventually found a way to wrest back momentum and turn another important playoff innings into a record-breaking night.

A 21-run over against Siraj changed the complexion of the innings and allowed Rajasthan Royals to recover from early pressure. He reached his half-century in 31 balls, the slowest fifty of his IPL career, before accelerating dramatically. Once Ravindra Jadeja settled at the other end, Sooryavanshi switched gears and hammered 46 runs off his next 15 deliveries to surge into the nineties.

A third IPL century looked inevitable.

Instead, the teenager suffered another near miss, falling in the 90s for the third time in his last four IPL innings.

HOW SOORYAVANSHI SHATTERED RECORDS IN GT VS RR?

Even though he fell short of a hundred, the innings was packed with milestones that highlighted the extraordinary nature of his season.

The knock took Sooryavanshi beyond 1,000 IPL runs and further cemented his place among the most explosive batters the tournament has ever seen. It also showcased a different side to his batting, with the teenager forced to absorb pressure before launching his assault.

Among the records and milestones achieved during the innings were:

  • Fastest batter to 1,000 IPL runs by balls faced – 440 balls
  • Surpassed Andre Russell’s previous record of 545 balls
  • Second-fastest batter to 1,000 IPL runs by innings – 23 innings
  • Only Shaun Marsh (21 innings) reached the landmark quicker
  • Became the first batter in T20 history to score 500 powerplay runs in a single tournament
  • Went past David Warner’s previous record of 467 powerplay runs in IPL 2016
  • Took his tally to 776 runs in IPL 2026
  • Reached his fifty in 31 balls, the slowest half-century of his IPL career
  • Faced 47 deliveries, the most he has ever faced in an IPL innings
  • Batted till the 18th over, the deepest he has batted into an IPL innings
  • Became only the fifth player in IPL history to be dismissed in the 90s three times, joining KL Rahul, David Warner, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Glenn Maxwell

While the dismissal denied him what would have been a memorable hundred, it did little to take the shine off another remarkable performance.

At the time of writing, Sooryavanshi’s attention had already shifted from personal milestones to the bigger objective. The teenager was preparing to take the field as Rajasthan Royals looked to defend 215 against Gujarat Titans and book their place in the IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After another record-filled knock, he will hope his efforts with the bat do not go in vain.
