Shreyanka Patil has reacted after being ruled out of the Women’s T20 World Cup due to a foot injury, opening up on the disappointment and emotional setback in her campaign. Last year, she had visited Lord’s and visualised herself lifting the trophy from the iconic balcony, but the dream remains unfulfilled for now.
India have named leg-spinner Prema Rawat as her replacement, who has previously played alongside Shreyanka at Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League.
In a heartfelt Instagram message, Shreyanka said injuries are never easy and this one has hit her the hardest, while also expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans during this difficult phase. She added that she will continue to dream despite the setback, signing off with a reminder that she remains heartbroken but will fly again.
“Well, not every dream comes true. No injury is easy but this one has hit the hardest. But in these last couple of days, I have been overwhelmed by the love I have received. I have seen so many messages, so many edits, reels and I truly appreciate them all,” Shreyanka wrote in a message on Instagram.
“I know I have enough of you wishing well for me to get through this as well. Not every dream comes true, but I’m not going to stop dreaming! And like I said last year, ‘heartbroken, but I will fly again’,” Shreyanka added.
HOW SHREYANKA GOT INJURED
Shreyanka Patil was injured during the sixth over of the Netherlands innings while fielding after bowling a delivery around the wicket. While sprinting to prevent runs, she landed awkwardly while collecting the ball and immediately went down in pain, clutching her right ankle.
The medical staff attended her as she struggled to bear weight. She was eventually stretchered off in a buggy, raising concerns about her tournament availability. Shafali Verma completed the over. She went off the park after which Shafali Verma completed her over.
SHREYANKA’S STRUGGLES WITH INJURIES
Shreyanka has faced a prolonged injury struggle, spending nearly a year out of action. Her issues began with a fractured finger during the Asia Cup, though she recovered in time for India’s 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
She later suffered Grade 3 shin splints in both legs, which ruled her out for months and forced her to miss the entire 2025 WPL season for RCB. She returned to international cricket against Australia, winning Player of the Match in the series decider, but has now been sidelined again due to another injury setback.
