Greater Noida:
Five members of a family, including three children, were found dead under suspicious circumstances in Rabupura area of Greater Noida. Police said preliminary findings suggest the deaths could be a case of food poisoning and hence a field unit and a forensic team are conducting a thorough investigation at the scene.
Police have identified the victims as Mahesh (37), his wife Lalita (35), their sons Laddu (11) and Sakshat (3) and daughter Mishti (7).
Neighbours and the mother of one of the victims, Mahesh, said that the family had consumed noodles the previous night. The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Further legal action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and the results of other scientific investigations.
Meanwhile, local police, senior officials, ambulance and a team from the Food Safety Department immediately arrived at the scene after receiving the information. Inquest proceedings are being completed, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations.
Speaking on the incident, BJP’s Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, said he has apprised the chief minister’s office about the tragic incident.
“Particular attention is being paid to determining whether any toxic substance was present in the food consumed by the family or whether the deaths occurred due to some other reasons. The exact cause of the deaths can be confirmed only after the post-mortem reports are received,” he said.
“The untimely death of five members of a family, including three children, in such circumstances is deeply painful and heart-wrenching. The police, administration and food department teams are engaged in the investigation,” Singh added, quoted PTI.
Greater Noida Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrawan Kumar Singh told ANI, “A very tragic incident has occurred in Rabupura; a husband and wife, along with their three children, have died. Upon receiving the information, we arrived at the scene, and ambulances also reached the location. Other departments, including the forensic team, are conducting a scientific investigation.”
The DCP said the family had food around 10 pm before going to sleep. The incident came to light on Saturday morning when one of the children did not wake up for an examination.
“They had a meal at 10 to 10:30 PM. When one of the children did not wake up in the morning for an exam, the situation came to light,” Singh said, the news agency quoted.
“We are proceeding based on the items they consumed, and further action will be taken following a more detailed investigation. Once the report is available, the actual truth behind the incident-and why this happened-will be revealed,” Singh said.
Neighbours Say Mahesh’s Mother Had Cooked Noodles
Meanwhile, neighbours of the family have alleged that domestic disputes over property had been taking place within in the house. They said the mother of Mahesh had already transferred the property to her daughter’s name and had told the victim family to leave the house. The neighbours mentioned there used to be constant arguments among them.
The neighbours further claimed that the man’s mother had cooked noodles and served it to the family after they returned home from visiting a fair.
