Season 2 ended with the breakup of Che Diaz and Miranda Hobbes, and now reports suggest that Sara Ramirez will not be returning for Season 3.

The sequel to Sex and the City, titled And Just Like That, has been met with success, with Sara Ramirez’s standout performance as Che Diaz garnering significant praise from fans. Playing the role of a non-binary stand-up comedian and podcaster alongside Cynthia Nixon’s Miranda Hobbes, Ramirez brought depth and authenticity to the series. However, Season 2 concluded with the on-screen breakup of Che and Miranda, and now reports from Variety suggest that Ramirez will not be returning for Season 3.

While the exact reason for Ramirez’s departure remains undisclosed, speculation abounds. Some attribute it to the on-screen split, while others suggest it may be linked to Ramirez’s Instagram posts regarding Palestine. Despite this uncertainty, fans remain hopeful for future appearances by Ramirez, particularly considering the strong friendship depicted between Che and Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw.

Meanwhile, Sara Ramirez, known for their outspoken nature, earlier shared their strong views on the Israel-Hamas conflict on Instagram. Later, speculations suggested that Ramirez’ was fired from the show due to the stance. However, a source close to the situation has denied that Ramirez was fired due to their political views. The insider clarified that “Che’s character had reached a natural conclusion since their relationship with Miranda had ended.”

The official announcement regarding Sara Ramirez’s departure from the show came a month after they posted a statement on social media, where they criticized the Hollywood industry for its perceived lack of integrity. In an Instagram post, Ramirez expressed frustration, stating, “Our industry is so duplicitous. While they give awards away, casting directors and agents are making blacklists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians in Gaza to ensure they will not work again. While they lift up some of their own clients who have spoken up against this genocide, they are firing and letting others who have smaller platforms go. While they award ‘lgbtq orgs,’ they are silent on those orgs ties to weapons manufacturers who are currently supporting the Israel military as it commits genocide on Palestinian lives that include LGBTQIA2S+ lives.”

Ramirez’ added, “I get it. Awards are shiny and people need to pay their rent or feel special and powerful. Meanwhile we are beyond the 100 day mark on this ‘war’ that has been acknowledged by many, including the ICC, as a genocide. It’s wild how performative so many in Hollywood are. Even more performative than the last character I played.”

In the first season of And Just Like That, Che Diaz, the podcast partner of Carrie Bradshaw, played an important role in ending Miranda Hobbes’ marriage with Steve Brady (David Eigenberg). By the end of season 1, Che and Miranda were shown spending time together in Los Angeles. However, the second season witnessed a decline in their relationship, ultimately leading to their breakup. The Season 2 finale featured Carrie bidding farewell to her New York apartment, by hosting a final dinner party, which was attended by both Miranda and Che.
