Months before the devastating Nepal-Tibet floods, two ICIMOD reports warned that rapidly melting Hindu Kush Himalayan glaciers were increasing the risk of catastrophic floods and ice-related disasters. The reports found glacier ice loss had doubled since 2000, with HKH glaciers losing 12% of their area between 1990 and 2020.
