If your learner’s licence or driving licence has expired or if you were trying to get online renewal done within the deadline but it did not work out, no need to worry. The ministry of road transport and highways has issued an order on this matter. After that, even the traffic police or Regional Transport Office (RTO) will not be able to challan you for driving a vehicle at this time. News18 tells you more about the ministry’s order.
All the work at the RTO happens through the Parivahan and Sarathi portals. From January 31 to February 12, both these portals were not working due to technical snags. Because of this, the renewal of learner’s, driver’s, and conductor’s licences could not be done online.
But those whose licences expired between January 31 and February 15 (the ministry extended the date by three days to February 15) need not worry.
What the order says
According to the order of the ministry, such licences will be considered valid till February 29. So, traffic police or RTO personnel will not be able to challan people with these licences.
Ghaziabad’s RTO administrator Rahul Srivastava says that the order of the ministry has been received.
People whose licences can be renewed offline by February 29 can do so by coming down to the office, and these will be considered valid.
Bus & Car Operators Confederation of India head Gurmeet Singh Taneja said the order issued by the ministry will benefit lakhs of people and such drivers will be able to avoid challans.
Licence renewal deadline
The learning licence can be made permanent within 30 days to six months. Similarly, a permanent driving licence can be renewed 30 days before or within 30 days from the date of expiration.
If there is no renewal within this deadline, a challan could be issued.
