Gujarat Titans assistant coach Parthiv Patel believes Jason Holder has brought much-needed balance to the side after the all-rounder’s impressive impact in IPL 2026. Holder, who spent the first six matches on the bench, has quickly become one of GT’s most important players over the last few games.
Ahead of Gujarat’s clash against Rajasthan Royals, Parthiv admitted Holder’s inclusion has changed the dynamic of the side, especially during difficult middle-order phases.
“Jason Holder’s inclusion has been brilliant for us,” Parthiv said in GT’s pre-match press conference.
“The way he has been batting, he is a proper all-rounder. He can play the anchor role and if needed, he can also finish games with attacking intent.”
“With the ball too, he understands situations and conditions really well. He is an experienced player, so his inclusion has been great for us.”
GT’s top-order of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler has carried the batting heavily this season, but Holder’s arrival has eased some of that pressure.
Before Holder entered the XI, Gujarat’s middle-order had often looked vulnerable whenever early wickets fell. The collapse against Mumbai Indians earlier this season, where GT were bowled out for 100, only added to those concerns.
Now, the side suddenly looks far more settled.
HOW GOOD HAS JASON HOLDER BEEN IN IPL 2026?
Holder may have played only four matches so far, but the impact has been immediate.
The West Indies all-rounder picked up 4/24 against Punjab Kings before following it with another strong all-round performance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he returned with figures of 2/29 and also grabbed three catches.
Both performances earned him back-to-back Player of the Match awards.
With the bat, Holder has scored 40 runs at a strike rate of 148.15 and has looked comfortable handling pressure situations lower down the order.
Against RCB, GT slipped from 92/2 to 111/5 and suddenly looked shaky again. Holder then helped calm things down alongside Rahul Tewatia and ensured Gujarat did not lose control of the innings completely.
That composure is something GT had clearly been missing earlier in the season.
HOW HAS JASON HOLDER SOLVED GT’S MIDDLE ORDER WOES?
For most of IPL 2026, Gujarat’s biggest concern was simple – what happens if the top three fail?
Gill, Sudharsan and Buttler were scoring heavily, but the middle-order was not contributing consistently enough. At one stage, GT’s Nos. 4 to 7 had the fewest runs among all teams in the tournament.
Holder’s arrival has helped change that balance.
He has given Gujarat flexibility with both bat and ball. If wickets fall early, he can slow things down and rebuild. If GT need late runs, he has the power to finish strongly as well.
That has also helped players around him settle into clearer roles.
With the ball too, Holder has added another reliable option to the attack and given GT more control during middle overs and death phases.
At a stage where the playoff race is tightening up, Gujarat finally look like a side with far fewer holes than they had a few weeks ago.
