Former England cricketer Nick Knight lauded Ashwin for his bowling and said that Ashwin was clever against England in the second innings of the match. Knight said that Ashwin was prompt to go around the wicket after he did not find a lot of purchase while bowling over the wicket to the right handers.

“It is the key moment. Talk about all the little nuances of the game when he got to Joe Root trapped there. I was on commentary at the time. You just wondered, Is it full enough? And it was full enough, and that was the key moment for me So far there. I thought it was clever. I mean, Anil will tell you more about it than me, why he goes around the wicket and over the wicket,” Nick Knight said while speaking on Jio Cinema.

“But he started over the wicket and then he there wasn’t enough in the surface. So he goes round the wicket looking for the LBW. Looking for exactly that. And when you see a bowler do exactly what they’re trying to do. That’s why those numbers are so high (wickets at home) because he’s in complete control of what he’s trying to do most of the time. And it’s extraordinary,” Knight lauded the India spinner.

While Knight was happy with the Root decision, former England batter Michael Vaughan seemed less impressed. Vaughan called out the DRS and umpire’s call over Root’s dismissal.

Sharma majorly stuck to his spinners on Day 3 of the Test match in Ranchi. Apart from 3 overs of Mohammed Siraj, he bowled Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav throughout the innings.

At the time of writing, all three spinners were among wickets, with Ashwin being the pick among them, with 3 wickets to his name.
