World No.1 Jannik Sinner continued his incredible run after qualifying for the final of the Madrid Open. On Friday, May 1, the Italian star defeated Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4 to secure his place in the championship match. Sinner also became the youngest player to reach the final of all nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.

Sinner broke the record of legendary Novak Djokovic, who had set the mark back in 2012. He also became the third man in history to reach the final of the first four Masters 1000 events of a season, after Roger Federer in 2006 and Rafael Nadal in 2011.

JANNIK SINNER KEEPS MARCHING ON

Against Fils in the semi-final, Sinner once again showcased his ability to dictate rallies with early ball striking and precise returning. The straight-sets win extended his exceptional 2026 form, during which he has already captured multiple Masters 1000 titles and built a long winning streak across the season.

His performance in Madrid has also been notable for his mental resilience, especially in pressure moments where he has consistently broken serve at crucial junctures.

“I tried to be best aggressive. I felt very comfortable in the return. In the second set he started to serve better so it was more difficult. I am very happy about the general performance today. I’m trying to play the best possible tennis I can at this moment. Today was a very good day in the office. But I knew before the match, he’s one of the best players in the world at the moment,” Sinner said after the match.

“I’m very happy I’ve played against him. It means a lot to me. He’s very good for tennis, for the sport. I’m really happy about today’s performance,” Sinner added.

In the final, Sinner will be up against the winner of the other semifinal between Alexander Zverev and Alexander Blockx.
