Ukraine has described India’s proposal for ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict as the most comprehensive among four international initiatives currently being considered by Kyiv.

RBC Ukraine reported that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said India has, for the first time, indicated its willingness to play a role in the peace process. His comments signal a potentially larger diplomatic role for New Delhi as efforts to find a negotiated settlement continue.

“We have four proposals. The most comprehensive is India’s proposal. For the first time, India has signalled its willingness to play a role,” Sybiha said during a press briefing.

The proposals under consideration also include initiatives from Turkiye and Egypt focused on a truce covering grain and agricultural shipments in the Black Sea. Such an arrangement would be particularly important for Egypt, which depends heavily on Ukrainian grain supplies.

The United States has separately proposed an energy truce between Russia and Ukraine. The issue has previously featured in discussions between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Sybiha said Kyiv was open to considering both an energy truce and a Black Sea agricultural truce. Ukraine is also examining the possibility of an unconditional ceasefire along the line of contact, according to the report.

The comments from Kyiv came as Russian President Vladimir Putin separately acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to encourage a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Putin said Modi had repeatedly raised the issue of ending the war during their discussions and had shown an active interest in finding a solution acceptable to both sides.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of those world leaders who… constantly raises the question about putting an end to the conflict in Ukraine,” Putin said.

Putin added that Modi had very good ideas aimed at finding mutually acceptable solutions. He also thanked the Prime Minister for his efforts to bring the conflict to an end through peaceful means.

India has consistently maintained that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict, while continuing its engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv.

Modi reiterated this position during an interview with Japanese newspaper The Yomiuri Shimbun in August. He said India had maintained a principled and humanitarian stance and had encouraged both sides to pursue dialogue and diplomacy.

The Prime Minister has also said India is willing to support meaningful efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement. Given New Delhi’s relations with both Russia and Ukraine, Modi said India could contribute to efforts focused on restoring an early and lasting peace.
