In a big religious gesture, Lord Buddha’s sacred Kapilawasthu relics, at the moment housed on the RajaGuru Sri Subuthi Waskaduwa Maha Viharaya in Sri Lanka, shall be provided to the Dalai Lama on Thursday morning, as introduced by the workplace of the Dalai Lama.

Historic and religious significance

The Kapilavastu relics, identified for his or her historic and religious significance, function a profound hyperlink to Lord Buddha’s legacy, connecting devotees to his teachings and enlightenment.

Custodian of the relics

The revered relics, numbering 21, have been meticulously preserved and guarded for generations by ‘Waskaduwe Mahindawamsa Nayaka Thero’ on the Sri Subhuthi Maha Viharaya in Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka.

Earlier occasions

In February, on the event of Chotrul Duechen, the Dalai Lama imparted teachings from the Jataka Tales to over 3000 Tibetan followers on the Primary Tibetan Temple in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

Celebrating Buddhist festivals

Chotrul Duechen, celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first Tibetan month, marks the “Nice Day of Miraculous Manifestations,” commemorating important occasions in Lord Buddha’s life.

Relics exposition in Thailand

In March, the relics of Lord Buddha and his two fundamental disciples, Arahant Sariputta and Maha Moggallana, have been exhibited throughout 4 cities in Thailand, drawing over 4 million devotees from Thailand and the Mekong area.

Organised effort

The revered relics’ exposition, facilitated by the Ministry of Tradition, Authorities of India, in collaboration with the Worldwide Buddhist Confederation (IBC), commenced its journey from New Delhi on February 22, traversing by means of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, and Krabi provinces.
