SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and his wife perform the puja.

“On this auspicious occasion, we welcome ‘Shaligram Bhagwan’. We hope Shaligram Bhagwan will bring prosperity and luck to the people of our state and entire country,” said SP chief Akhilesh Yadav

The Shaligram Shila, brought from Nepal for the Kedarnath-themed Dudheshwar Mahadev Temple being built in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah by Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, reached the state on Tuesday. Among those present on the occasion were Yadav, his wife and MP Dimple Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan and senior SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav.

Senior SP leaders, who were the part of this ritual, said the Shaligram would be used to carve out a ‘Shivling’, to be placed in the temple, which will be one of the grandest in Etawah.

“On this auspicious occasion, we welcome ‘Shaligram Bhagwan’. We hope Shaligram Bhagwan will bring prosperity and luck to the people of our state and entire country,” said Yadav.

“The Shila is 7 ft high, 6 ft wide and weighs 13 tonnes. We welcome you wholeheartedly with the sacred wish that the arrival of Lord Shaligram be auspicious for the country and the state and beneficial for the people,” stated Yadav’s post on X.

Yadav said the Shaligram was brought by Shrimadhi Botta and Kripashankan from Jaunpur, who got it from Nepal. “Such rare Shilas are found only in Kali Gandaki river of Nepal. These Shilas are called Devshilas,” said Yadav, while conducting the puja at the SP Headquarters in Lucknow on Tuesday, amid the chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’.

State party president Naresh Uttar Patel, former UP Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey and Chief Whip in Assembly Manoj Pandey were also present.

Pandey said, “The Shaligram would be used to carve out a shivling, which would be placed in the temple.”

The temple will be built on around 10 acres.
