Somalia’s cabinet and lawmakers on February 21 backed a key defence pact with Turkey, citing sovereignty concerns. The defence agreement comes amid a dispute between Somalia and Ethiopia over a maritime agreementUnder the 10-year pact, close ally Turkey will help defend Somalia’s long coastline, said Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The agreement will also see Turkey rebuild the naval forces of the fragile Horn of Africa nation, Mohamud added.
