Relations had stated the abductors demanded a big fee for the return of the scholars

Abuja:

The greater than 250 college college students seized by gunmen in a mass kidnapping in northwestern Nigeria earlier this month have been launched, the native governor stated on Sunday.

The kidnapping in Kuriga, Kaduna state on March 7 was one of many greatest such assaults in years and prompted a nationwide outcry over insecurity.

“The kidnapped Kuriga college kids are launched unhurt,” Kaduna state governor Uba Sani stated in a press release that didn’t specify how they had been freed.

“That is certainly a day of pleasure,” he stated, thanking the military, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the nationwide safety adviser, and “all Nigerians who prayed fervently for the secure return of the varsity kids”.

Gangs of criminals recognized domestically as bandits have been blamed for the abductions. They routinely goal communities, loot villages and perform mass kidnappings for ransom in northwest and north-central Nigeria.

Relations had stated the abductors demanded a big fee for the return of the scholars, however President Tinubu stated he had ordered safety forces to not pay up.

Kidnap victims in Nigeria are sometimes freed following negotiations with the authorities, although a 2022 legislation banned handing over cash to kidnappers and officers deny ransom funds are made.
