The Pune Metro’s Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch has been approved by CMRS, but the official opening is not yet scheduled.
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has approved the start of operations for the Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi section of Pune Metro Line 2.
But it’s unclear whether passengers must wait for an official launch to use the service. Meanwhile, if the state government instructs the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro), people will be able to avail the metro service to Ramwadi within a few days, as reported by Pune Pulse.
This much-anticipated section was finally inspected by the CMRS in January. Before authorising commercial operations, the CMRS requested compliance with a few minor observations.
Maha-Metro is developing two routes: Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate (Pune Metro Line 1) and Vanaz to Ramwadi (Pune Metro Line 2).
On January 22, Janak Kumar Garg, the Commissioner of CMRS, completed the final inspection of the Pune Metro Line-2 stretch from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi. Furthermore, minor observations were made by the commissioner, such as the completion of railing work and granite polishing.

The Pune Metro rail project’s first phase includes two corridors: a north-south corridor (Purple line) and an east-west corridor (Aqua line), totaling 33.1 km and 30 stations.
The 17.4-kilometer north-south corridor from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Swargate includes 14 stations (nine elevated and five underground) and passes through Pimpri-Chinchwad’s industrial area as well as the old Peth areas of Pune. Currently, this line runs from Pimpri to Civil Court. The approximately 3.7-kilometer-long segment from Civil Court to Swargate is expected to open in March this year.
Similarly, the fully elevated corridor, which runs from Vanaz in the west to Ramwadi in the east, spans 15.7 kilometres and includes 16 stations. This line is currently operational from Vanaz to Ruby Clinic, with the remaining 5.5 km stretch from Ruby Clinic to Ramwadi slated for inauguration.
Once completed, the two corridors will offer smooth travel from Vanaz to Ramwadi and PCMC to Swargate, increasing the Metro’s overall length from its current 24 km to 33.1 km. The Metro’s earlier phases were officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Therefore, it’s expected that he’ll also open the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch when he visits the city.
On the other hand, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-metro) recently announced plans to introduce “pay and park” services at eight of its stations. Two-wheeler commuters will have to pay Rs 15 for every two hours of parking, plus an additional Rs 5 to keep their helmets in this area, as reported by HT.
