As the relentless cricket calendar moves swiftly along, India return to the Harare Sports Club for the second T20I on Saturday, July 25. Iyer’s men will look to build on that momentum, clean up the minor errors, and wrap up the three-match series with a game to spare.
INDIAN PACE ATTACK IN FOCUS
While chasing down 126 turned out to be fairly routine, the real story of the first game was how India’s young pacers handled the conditions in Harare. After spending almost two years out with injuries, tearaway fast bowler Mayank Yadav looked right at home. The chase was largely about young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showing what he can do. After a rough patch in England, where teams repeatedly targeted him with short balls, the 15-year-old smashed a 19-ball fifty, becoming the youngest player to score a T20I half-century.
Along with Ishan Kishan’s 35 and a composed unbeaten 28 from Shreyas Iyer, India knocked off the target with more than six overs to spare.
The only quiet spot in the top order was Abhishek Sharma, who fell early. It was a contrast in fortunes for the left-hander, who hit his maiden T20I hundred at the Harare Sports Club back in 2024. He will be keen to get a few runs under his belt this time around.
CAN ZIMBABWE HIT BACK?
For Sikandar Raza’s team, the priority on Saturday is simply surviving the new ball. Zimbabwe have been strong at home recently, but they struggled to handle the extra pace India brought in the opening overs.
If they want to take this series to a decider on Sunday, their top three will need to show better judgment against the new ball and avoid giving away early wickets.
With back-to-back games this weekend, India will want to get the job done early and seal Iyer’s first series win as captain on Saturday itself.
